The Greens are fulfilling promises to improve public transport, and the proposed new rail timetable on the Heuston/Galway/Heuston route delivers up to seven fantastic additional services ( see below ) for people in the Midlands from 25th August. The proposed changes are long called for, and it’s great to see the investment follow and the services being delivered.
My Green Party colleague, Liam Walsh, who is a candidate for next Friday’s Offaly County Council elections in the Tullamore LEA, has been actively campaigning for a later train to serve Tullamore and Clara. He started a petition which has over 650 signatures. The proposed 20:30 Heuston to Galway service will provide a later last service from Dublin to Tullamore, Clara and further stops along the route to Galway. This will benefit all train users, especially people working late and theatre and concert goers.
My family often use the Dublin to Portarlington service and the reduced fare with a Young Adult Leap Card makes rail travel very affordable for younger people especially. Expanded services great increases employment opportunities for people in this area. It makes perfect sense to extend the services and incentivise people to use them. This is just one example of how going Green has real benefits for people.
Up to seven additional services proposed on the Heuston/Galway route including:

New 20:30 hrs Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Sat) arriving at 23:06 hrs. This will provide a later last service from Dublin to Tullamore, Clara, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Athenry, Oranmore & Galway.
