In the Seanad, Senator Hackett discusses the Lough Boora bike hire tender and public procurement. Acknowledging that public procurement needs to support local jobs for local people, Senator Hackett calls for it to be "swift, responsive, and locally aware" in order to secure a sustainable future in Laois and Offaly.

Minister Hackett welcomes applications her Departments Farm & Community Biodiversity Initiative. The applications were a real indication of the sort of creative thinking which deserves support, therefore the original €1.25m budget was increased to €3m - permitting 24 wonderful biodiversity projects across the country.

I enjoyed a wonderful day around Laois today, including the opportunity to visit tillage and dairy farmers who understand the challenges facing Irish agriculture, the value of working for solutions together.

I am calling out those who persist with the destructive narrative that decarbonising the Midlands region means we are losing something valuable. We’re not. We have everything to gain. Times are changing and the Midlands region is moving on to a better future.
